Youth Tour
Each year the cooperative sponsors one area youth on an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC. The winner joins hundreds of young people from all across the country to tour our nation's capital. A day is spent on Capital Hill observing the House and Senate in session and visiting members of congress in their offices. The contest is open to students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors and they must be a current member of the cooperative. For more information, visit the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour website.
Scholarships
The cooperative also sponsors seven scholarships each year to the seven area high schools. They are awarded to a graduating senior who plans to further his or her education and recipients must be a son or daughter of a current member of the cooperative. The scholarships are not designated for any particular field of study and each school's scholarship committee selects the recipient.
The schools involved are Zumbrota/Mazeppa, Goodhue, Kenyon/Wanamingo, Cannon Falls, Red Wing, Pine Island and Lake City.
